On the topic of the thumbnail, what do you generally select as our thumbnail if we check default thumbnail?

The default thumbnails are already on the system and are added before the video reaches the queue. The thumbnail automatically allocated depends upon which category you select when you upload your video. If  a video arrives with the wrong thumbnail (because you have chosen card color change for a coin routine for example) then we will change it to the correct one.

Thankyou to those of you who are making your own video thumbnails, it really does help out the staff and means that you get to have the thumbnail of your choice to advertise your video.

In the past MVD has always insisted that thumbnails are action taken from the video, not graphic icons. I think you would agree that action shots look more interesting and professional. We have been quite relaxed about this lately, however, we are going to start enforcing that rule again. Also staff will no longer be uploading the default thumbnails, they are just there merely to help you get your video into the queue if you REALLY are unable to make one yourself eg: if you are a new member and haven't got to grips with it yet.

Please take the time to learn how to take a screenshot and make a thumbnail with action from your video. Paulo has put an easy to follow tutorial at the beginning of this thread.

Thanks guys.

Well as long as we're at it, I just wanted to remind everyone of a couple of important things to consider when uploading your video. First of all we've been getting a lot of files called "matrix.wmv" or "mycointrick.mov". This is insufficient as our server only allows for one video with any given name. Please note that this refers to the filename of your video, or in other words, the name your video has on YOUR computer.
Adding your username will pretty much garantee your name is original and ensure that we can put your video up more swiftly. For example, instead of uploading "matrix.wmv", a good choice would be to call it "aramis_matrix.wmv" I am the only Aramis, and I doubt someone else will want to upload their video with my name on it, so my odds of having an original filename are very good..

I would also like to remind our members that at this time, Copyrighted music is not tolerated on your videos. This is a legal issue, and we are very strict in enforcing it. If you think it might be copyrighted, then it probably is. If you're not sure, then it is most likely copyrighted as well. In fact if I'm not 100% convinced that your music is not copyrighted, I will NOT put it up. If you do put a video with music that you are certain is part of the creative commons act ( http://creativecommons.org/ ), then please provide a link in your video description, and make sure you give credit to the author in your video.

One last topic is the uploading of promotional videos. This is a fairly new issue and is by no means widespread, but we have been getting some videos advertising effects, websites and such. As you may know, this is not the purpose of this website. If you do wish to advertise something on MVD, you will have to communicate with Andrew directly.

So I think that covers it all, I encourage you all to keep sending those great videos along. Cheers and toodles.

As a staff member, I and other staff member have gone around and around with the copyrighted music. I know it would be nice to put some cool tune in, like myself. But I will follow the rule of MVD. It will make it easier for all of the staff to upload your videos in a timely matter. The staff is only doing are job!!!!  Keep the great video coming.

Thanks Don  :)

I've recorded some effects on my digital camera but I don't know what program I should use to change the format and the size.  They're much too big to be put on here.  Does anyone know what I could do to reformat them?  Thanks

Gary I put a tutorial here http://www.magicvideodepot.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=2102&forum_id=15

It will automatically change the format to .wmv and save to the size of your choice

Thanks man. I have another question though.  I clicked the link and downloaded this windows package.  Is the program a part of that package?  if so, how do I access it.  I'm not very computer literate but I try.  Let me know when you have the time..  thanks.

In Windows XP go to Programs, Accessories, Entertanment, then you should see it.

Okay, I found it.  Now the only problem is that I can't import my vids to the program.  The vids were taken on my kodak digital camera and have uploaded as MOV .

Is there way to change their format so as to make them importable?  I've tried everything I can think of and nothing works.  Let me know if it's a lost cause. and thanks for all your help!

I have heard that Pocket Divx Encoder will encode any type of video file. It's a free download

Pocket divx encoder, doesn't work for Mov/quicktime files... I'm afraid you need to purchase Quicktime pro for that...

Gary have you checked the software disc that you got with the camera, it may have Quicktime Pro on it.
