Hi all magic junkies. There occasionally are some problems with videos that are uploaded. If you are uploading videos to MVD or planning on doing so, please read the following:
1. Name your file in a unique way. If the main title of the clip is snap change (please, God, no more), your username is magicdude101, and the file type is a wmv, then name your file
magicdude101_snap_change.wmv
If you name your file snapchange.wmv it probably can't be added as that file name is probably reserved for a video that already is on the site. If that is the case, then a staffer who has spent time downloading the video(to preview it) has to delete it and PM you. Then you have to re-upload the video, titled properly.
It would save everyone hassle if this could be avoided.
2. No copyrighted music. At all. None. Uploading staff are getting to the point where they no longer wish to waste time arguing with video authors about this issue.
3. Make your own thumbnail. I know that many of you do not know how to do this, but it is easy enough to learn (at the end of this post, I will describe how I do it). Adding your own thumbnail is not necessary, but it sure speeds things up. This is the main reason why some videos get added very quickly, and others though already uploaded, sit for a while. For me, if the thumbnail is already made then adding the video is a snap (NO….NOT a snap CHANGE).
By the way, when you make your own thumbnail, you get to decide what it is. Some authors simply have a unique thumbnail for all of their submitted videos.
How To Make Your Own Thumbnail (in Windows)
Play your movie. While it is playing, hit alt combined with the PrintScreen button when you want to use that image as a thumbnail.
Open Paint.
Paste (note, if you see the Media Player image pasted but the playback area is black, you need to change the video acceleration setting in WMP to something less than full – Tools, Options, Performance).
Use that dotted rectangle tool in Paint to select the screen in the center of the player showing the image. Cut. Open a new Paint file (no need to save the old one). Paste into the new Paint file.
Now the image needs to be resized to 117 x 97.
Check the attributes (Image, Attributes). If the attributes are 250 x 220, then you know your have to shrink by about 50%. Do this by going to Image, Stretch/Skew, and typing in 50% for BOTH dimensions. Now check the attributes again. If they are pretty close to 117 x 97 (but larger), then change them to 117 x 97. This will cut the right and bottom sides to get the 117 x 97 size.
(If after you Stretch/Skew, the attribute show smaller than 117 x 97, then choose Undo (in the Edit menu), and try a different % for the stretch and skew (if 50% made it too small), then undo and try 54%.)
Once it is at 117 x 97, then save it as a jpg file. Upload it at the same time you upload your video.
(There are other ways to do this, but it is just the way I do it.)
Please take the time to try this (or learn how to make a thumbnail using other means). Once you figure it out, it really is not that tough – it will take only a couple of minutes (as opposed to 15 videos X a couple of minutes for the staffers).
Thanks everyone.

Wow Poulo, that will help all of us. It take time for me and hard drive space to make all the thumb nail for all. This will help all the staff that reviews and uploads.Let make sure we follow 6, 7and 8 of the upload rules.
6.) Always include a description of the trick and a source. If you do not know the source ask someone, or put -Source Unknown- DO NOT leave the fields blank.
7.) Keep titles to 3 words in length.
8.) Capitalize the first letter of every word in the title
Thanks
Don

Tim,
Nothing to be sorry for.
It's not so much that it is a problem, as much as it is that videos could be added sooner. We appreciate anyone who is willing to make their own thumbnails, but of course it is not a prerequisite.
Thanks Tim.

| On the top row of your keyboard, to the right of F12, there should be a key labelled Print screen......

Yes if that's what it says on your key. Some keyboards are different.

Try making sure the filename is in all lowercase letters.
