Whatever the situation is right now, MVD has given me a whole network of friends in magic, many of whom I have eventually met in person and still talk to on a regular basis.  People who not only have a great passion for magic but also know how to make this passion contagious.  Without them I wonder if I would still be doing magic today.  I have learned so much from people like Erlandish, Roland Henning, and last but not the least Tyler Erickson whose sleight of hand surpasses everything I have seen.  And so many others even new in magic who inspired me with wonderful ideas.  For this reason I still don't feel like giving up here.  I am hoping MVD can still become that exciting place it used to be.
It seems that despite the shortcomings the site still offers a great platform.  If my understanding is correct (I have never used this feature so far), it is possible on MVD to upload videos and have them only viewed and commented by friends.  This seems to be unique feature on the web and it seems to be just a matter of using it.

This place is really bad... I rarely log on here anymore, but when I do, I'm always disappointed. If this place was still run by MartyFalada, it would be a whole hell of a lot better than it is now. Come on SiteAdmin get your act together dude.

I must agree with what alot has been said here. This website has really gone down in quality. From the bs ads all over the website to the lack of administration here.

I know in the begining of this website I had made many suggestion on a business front, and not one of them was listen too. Back in the day there was so much top magic and so much talent it was insane. The close net group that was here was creating effects that were just top notch, that I know for a fact started here as a idea and then because of lack of intrest other magic sites produced them.

I find one of the biggest excuses I hear is cost.... well I have been running many websites for a major long time the cost is very little. Then I hear well it's the time it takes... my answer is well why do you start the website in the first place.

Im seriously thinking about opening my website again as it did great got wicked reviews, it was just at the time I couldnt keep it up, so instead of happening what has happened here I took it down.

One of the sadest thing I find is that the old site had the wizard section and I had donated all my teaching videos, which was turned to a sticky thread and now its gone. Even I dont have a copy of them anymore.

Really Andrew has turn MVD into a turned base website which for those of you that are not familiar with the terms mean basically the website runs it self with no need of a admin.

We can all see how this has turned out. MVD could have been on of the biggest players in the magic and internet magic scene but just let it fall to the waste side.

Im actually surprised some are stil here... like Sponge and a few others.

Right now beside magic cafe I dont see a solid place for pros and inspiring pros to hang, learn and teach. Its very sad.

Whats worse, as said by many here we have expressed our view and nothing has been done.

MVD will fade like many many other magic website and really is to bad.

Well thats my rant all!

MM,

I learned how to do a proper DL from your website. I bet you could get help in running it again. I bet there are a few here that would be willing to put their efforts into a site where the leadership had ears that did more than dangle earrings.

I would be happy to help if you do decide to start your website again.

I can code html, CSS, Basic actionscript, basic php, basic js, and I am fluent in photoshop, illustrator, and premieire pro. (I am in the middle of web design studies). And again I will happily do what I can to help.

Cheers

Dave

It's a really hard call to make as to why things have gone down. I think it's for many reasons.

On a personal level it's people like me. Honestly, I've been slack and haven't visited MVD in ages. Why? I've been too busy and with the advent of things like facebook, the free time I have gets wasted there.

But.....

When I do come here I get so lost. I have great trouble getting to the forums and the search function never seems to work for me. It looks flashy but I was more comfortable with the old "forum" first MVD back in Marty's day. And yes ... although we all carried on at the time ... I think the strong moderator presence really helped the forum churn out great info.

So is it the chicken or the egg? Ultimately it's us who will make or break MVD.

Just my own personal opinion, but when it came to receiving help to the point of look at my sleight "post link", or I am updating a trick "post link", and so forth no one cared anymore.
Before this site use to be about helping fellow magicians. How to perform double lift, how to do the Elmsley or Ghost count.
These things don't matter anymore Lately its about look at what I can do rather than ask for personal advice.
I know its my own personal opinion. But we are all Downhill due to our own personal Posts. No one cares or have interest to post within a group that posts various things that don't benefit themselves in one shape or form. Sad to say but is the truth.
Once we get out of our own realm then we will be able to help others.
Which in case is what many are looking for.

I agree to an extent about the [ new]  look at me attitude and, that was not about on here 3,4,5 years ago.

But ! with next to no input from the staff, and the way the site runs ! or does not, will not help the cause in any way shape or form.

Some of the bugs need to be ironed out and, the site needs a good look over to see where it  can be improved - no use looking good, if it cant deliver.

Just my own views on the subject.

I tell you what. I'm willing to give it a go again if you guys are serious about it.

That means we will have to comment give advice and work with people like we use to. and do it on a continuous basses. Is the email working in this place anymore ????

Someone PM me and lets see if it works. If that doesn't work then I will not do anything until it does.

Tim

Tim the message system on here has not worked for some time mate.

But I am willing to put an effort in if the other will, as you know I do moderate on another site, so I would hate  to just waist time in an empty effort.

But get the  message thing fixed and count me in.

That could take some time though. message me on my personal e/mail Tim or message me on the other site.

Chris.
