All ready then... How should a magician approach a restaurant? By phone? Come in person with a few tricks ready? Who to talk to? What is the ongoing rate for table hopping in Canada (on average)?
Many questions... but still

this does matter a lot! take it from me i started semi pro at 14! and it was hard peaple often think "how can someone so young be good ?" but you must make this your selling point! and how you do that is up to you. one of the things i use to get over this is a joke "well paul daniels IS my uncle" this is said in a funny way (but they dont know if its the truth or not) the best peace of advice i can give you is become a member of a magic club (there are meny for people your age) this alone makes you seem more perfesional! and if you can try to win an award (all magic clubs put on compititions) and that is the main selling point which will make you seem the better choice over an older person (who in these peoples eyes is not as good as you) none of this is true (well maby) but this is how it will be seen. take it form me.

Firstly you need to go in person to the resteraunt and speak to the person who will make the decision to employ you. This may not be the manager, it might be the owner or area manager.
Once you have met the decison maker, make sure you show him/her what your magic is like. If they are interested you could offer to do an hour for free but dont just do this for a freebee. Do it as a trial before you start.
Try to appear as profesional as you can. Look smart and try to get some business cards.
When it comes to money, you need to work out what it costs you to perform. You also need to know how much you need to update your skills and buy props. Then work out what you feel is your worth is to the resteraunt.
Negociating is tricky but the best thing to remember is what your walkaway price is. Dont go below that price. I use phrases like "standard rate" because it shows you charge the same everywhere and thats fair.
When you have finished, if the manager is positive make sure you take his card and offer to call him back at an agreed time (1 day, 1 week etc). Dont wait for him to call back.
