I'll revive this post :)

In my opinion, any sort of soliciting for tips, whether implied or direct, is very unprofessional.  If you are not satisfied with the wage you are making perfoming in a restaurant, then get a new restaurant gig.  Furthermore, hustling for money in a restaurant situation gives a bad name to other workers who genuinely do it for the love of magic and with bigger career goals, moreso than just trying to squeeze a 5-spot out of a customer.

That being said, my spectators are notified that I am a paid performer, either by me or by the waitstaff (depends on the gig, in my current venue I tell them myself).  I do absolutely zero effects that promote people to tip me.  However, in the event I am offered a tip, I graciously accept it.  Refusing a tip after the audience knows that you are not working for a tip, is rude.

So let me ask whats the difference between doing a trick that brings out money and you accepting a tip ?????? If you truly feel this way why don't you decline the tip ????

You made some stronge statements there but at the end you still accept a tip..........

I'm not against doing tricks that bring money out on the table for purposes of doing magic with the money.  I am against the attempt to bring money out on the table with the intent to get tipped.  There is a difference but I'll agree that I didn't clarify that very well in my original post :)

Tim, no need to apologize for disagreeing with me.  I am all for adult discussion.   I may come across as thinking I'm right all the time but I'm all for someone to disagree as long as we can do it like adults, which we can.  At least those of us who are here.

Pun?

Stir away,
Patrick
