How about MIDI files? MIDI can be created much like someone listening to a song and then playing what they thought they heard on a piano - except they can put in as many instruments as possible. We then would be similar to the pub band doing the cover.

I know I'm probably just being difficult, but it may be a way to open up a whole bunch more music if it's legal

Here's a site where all the music is produced under Creative Commons licence, so you can use any of it in your videos

If anyone is aware of specific videos containing copyrighted audio material, they should post a link here, or PM myself or Sponge, and the video(s) will be removed.

Just thought I would bump this thread about copyrighted music, in particular for those new to MVD.

Please don't use copyrighted music in your videos, it is against MVD's uploading policy as we are a copyright free site. :)

By copyrighted we mean anything that is not produced under Creative Commons licence. If the staff feel that the music in your video may be copyrighted then it will be deleted from the queue and you will be asked to change it, there are some links on the upload page to sites which contain royalty free music which you are free to use for your MVD videos. It makes the uploading process much smoother for you if your video upload is not delayed because of unsuitable music.

Under the terms of Creative Commons the author should be credited if the music is used, it also helps you and us if you include a credit (link to the source) in your video so that we can check if we are in doubt.

If copyrighted music does get past the ears of the staff for some reason then you run the risk of your video being deleted from the site if it is brought to our attention.

Just one more quick note about Private videos and the uploading rules. Private videos come under the same uploading rules as Public videos, ie: no copyrighted music, no exposure, no profanity or "adult" content. There seems to have been a bit of confusion over this lately so just thought I would clear it up.

Hey Jasonalan

You are getting an automated PM which is sent when a video is deleted or fails to upload correctly for some reason. It mentions copyrighted audio as this is the most common reason for a video being refused, though not the only one.

Are you uploading from YouTube using the "use external video" option? If so then please can you PM the link to the video to me or post it here, and we can check it out to see if there is a technical problem preventing it from reaching us.
