Hey, I'm trying to get some more gigs this summer. I was wondering how much I should go for.
I usually do $50-$60 an hour. Is this to much?
Oh, first thread in this topic

| You also need to consider your overall, long term goal. If your not already booked, why not do a gig for a lower price? This could provide a great opportunity for you to pass out your business cards. If you are busy and all the time with gigs--then set whatever price you want, as long as you can justify it.

I've said it before...but I'll say it again:
For anyone starting out, volunteer your time at the local hospital, community association, elementary school, etc. Get a reputation and your name out there.
In terms of actual amount to charge, I think there are too many variable to arrive at some fixed amount. Ahhh...economics.
Matt: Have you performed for a fee before? If so, what was the reaction of your clients (to the show in general and to the fee they paid)? The answers to this question might help you answer your specific one.
Best,
Paul

| It depends when I first started out doing restaurant work which was Jan 2006 so just recently. I charged the restaurant $15/h. Now I charge $50/h at the other restaurant. I charged low at first because I had no experience so I didnt want to be a waste of money. Another good thing to keep in mind is the type of restaurant. If its a small place then usualy they wont go to high. The bigger places like Stake House or other fancy ones go high. You really have to be worth what your charging as well. If its restaurant work your looking for then you always have to keep in mind that your there as an investment not just a waste of money. You can always make good negotiations as well like " Ok how about $40 an hour and I get meals once a week." Thats always good as well. Ive heard of people charging $500 an hour at restaurants but I think that, that is overcharging lol.

You think it is overcharging because you feel you are not worth that yet, which is fine. But I can assure you that the guy charging that knows he's worth it and the restaurant is happy to pay it to him because they are getting value out of it.

Trust me Paulo, I've have got my name out there (by word of mouth, friends family, walkaround, etc.)
I've done about 3 full shows before. I am more of the walk-around kind of guy, but shows make it so much easier to get money (for me atleast)
Guys, It's a little donut shop, old people go there, kids go there.
Remember guys, I've been doing magic for 3 years

First, you must remember, you took your life to practice magic,so even though you just perform for them for an hour or so,and you charge them more than what they might have expected, you must remember to took your life to practice this wonderful, unique closely guarded art of magic. But however, depending on how skilled and how long you've been into magic,if you think you're an excellent, skilled, experienced gig performer, then you can charge extra.I'm a restaurant magician,so I cant really help you in gigs.
Btw,about 3 months ago I was appointed to come perform for my dads friend grand daughter party, but I had to migrate to Australia a few days before the party,so I didnt go,he appointed another magician, and cost him $1000.00.However,he didnt freaked out though, because he's a very rich business man that gets phones, palm top,etc even before they're released.Hopefully,I'll be able to come back this December and drop by to perform some table hopping, usually I'll charge $60.00 per hour for table hopping.
Some might think its too little, but I love the the art of magic,I perform magic not for money, but to show how much I'm dedicated to this art,you dont need to be a conjuror here in MVD to prove that you're a good magician, nor a Wizard,or whatever it is.I love restaurant magic particularly because I'm able to reach within the audiences mind, and connect and make their day brighter, and happier. So remember, since we're the same age(I'm 12 turning 13 this year, one year younger than you),love the art of magic and you'll someday get something in return.
Btw,if I'm urgently appointed to come perform at a party to perform for adults and kids(I love performing for kids),I dont charge by hourly basis,I charge the whole performance, not caring how long the performance is,but mines usually last for about 1 hour packed with entertainment, laughter, shock, and joy!I would charge about $180.00..And most of the time,I would once again go table hopping for free,if they havent ate their dinner, lunch, etc.
Regards,
Jarrett aka coin roller

| I was paid 600.00 dollars + room + plain ticket + Suit rental. To attend my cousins wedding in texas. Showed off for about 2 hours then went home the next day. 300.00 an hour for a wedding is pretty good.

| Did you know that most canned products come out of the same factory only with a different label (eg: Baked Beans). Yet, we percieve the more expensive to be better quality. Therefore I wouldn't be too quick to sell yourself short.
