I think you are best off pointing you friend to other resources. I personally think if you are going to release a DVD, it should be of an original routine of your creation.

Maybe suggest your friend join a magic society. I have found that has really helped me a lot. Even simple things such as the DL (which still scares me) I have gained an insight on from my local magic club

Okay, class.  Today we're going to look at the fine art of what's called "back-pedaling":

Example:

Millerwood: I'm creating a dvd on how to do alot of begginer impromptu magic. About 20 tricks. The DVD is going for about 15 bucks. What are the laws on which tricks I can sell.

Now the fine art of back-pedaling:

Millerwood: My friend does magic with me at school, he has been having trouble with those effects, he knows them, he just gets lost sometimes, this DVD is just for him to look at for reference, I'm not selling seriously
, I was just wondering if I was allowed to put tricks on a DVD.

Let's look at another example:

Millerwood:Its more for some of my friends who want to learn a little magic
. I'm not putting a DVD out with advanced card moves and flourishes, it's a small project for some friends and family.
And some more fun back-pedaling:

My friend does magic with me at school, he has been having trouble with those effects, he knows them, he just gets lost sometimes, this DVD is just for him to look at for reference
, I'm not selling seriously, I was just wondering if I was allowed to put tricks on a DVD.

Millerwood?  Dude...just be honest up front and what your actual intentions are.  "You ain't gotta lie ta kick it."  Take the advice from e2x2e and Erlandish and stop the cover-up.  Nothing's worse than beating around the bush like this.  You just come off looking a little insincere when you could just state what you want to do, how you'd like to do it and take the advice of some truly exceptional performers on here.

Take care,

Tony

Uhh... yeah. I'm sorry, but nearly everything is copyrighted. If you really want to ask all the creators of the effects, go ahead. Why do you want all your friends to know the secrets of the effects? I like performing much better.
