Ok fellows, it's time for me to get into spange ball magic.

I'm only a beginner in this so I use sponge cubes that I cut myself, rather than real sponge balls.

Sometime a go I saw a TV show where they explained how to make all sorts of figures from a spang which could be hidden in a regular shape... man I wish I was into magic when I watched that show. Of course, I forgot the exact tecnique of this hidden sponge sculpturing, but if you could help me I will be greatful.

So, has anyone done this him/herself or everyone just buys sponge effects from dealers?

You can buy sheets of compressed sponge/foam from craft shops. Just draw the shape that you want onto the sheet of foam, cut it out then place into water. The foam will expand like magic into a 3D shape. You could then use scissors to add in more detail. You just dry the sponge shape with a towel and it is permanent.

Of course real sponge bunnies can only be created by mummy and daddy sponge rabbits, but that's another story....................;)

Well keep that opinion to yourself until it is wanted. Concentrate on the topic at hand.

And how exactly is that helping? :?

Ok, thanks to those who stayed on topic... that is only Sponge :) But I have a question though. You cut out your shape, then you moist this compressed sponge, then you dry it again, and then what? How would you go from a ball to a rabbit (or whatever shape I cut out) during the performance?

Thanks again,

Alex

Well, I used to buy sponges and other sponge effects. I never made them. I think it would be much easier to buy them. Unless, you feel like being creative then just buy 'em. Store bought ones are probably going to be better quality anyways.

You can soak the spongeball in water then freeze it. After a few hours you should be able to carve out your desired shape.

Hiya mate, just my 2 cents. I think it would be better of if you brought the sponge balls rather than making them. Secondly if you are a begginer with sponge balls, you can get a combo DVD and sponge ball set at a very reasonable price. With the DVD you will learn the sleights, the moves, the tricks and the technique into sponge ball magic. Good luck with it.

Regards

MagicAmit
