How can make gaffs like this. Not card splitting or otherwize. I do a lot of graphic related stuff for uni, i wanted to print my own cards, including unique gaffs. Printing on a piece of paper and sticking them on is not that nice. And i've tried to print directly on blank bikes, but the pores of the card cause the ink not to go all the way in. There are methods like (learnt from a craft book) Mineral turps on a piece of paper causing the ink to transfer. But its very light coloured.

My best so far is using a LAser printer on semi gloss 120gsm paper (slightly thicker than normal) and sticking them on bikes.

Any advice.? I seems if i want to print at the bicycle company itself i need minal orders of 10000. No way!

I have once heard of a card printing machine on a vernon tape?

There's some advice here http://www.wopc.co.uk/otc/production.html

Alternatively, is there a printshop near you that could print a small quantity of decks, or give you some advice on ink, cardstock etc.? Maybe there is a college or university that has such facilities who are willing to do small print jobs at a low price.

I print gaffs using my color laser printer and they come out fine.

I have a template of six card borders in a Word document (they are just there for loaction of the card on the paper to be printed, as you will see later).

I put what I would like added to the cards inside of the borders in the document, then print one regular sheet of that document.

Then I put a blank sheet of paper over the printed one and tape the cards to the blank sheet of paper so they line up with the borders (enough light gets through so I use the borders as a location of where the gaffs will be printed).

I put the single sheet of paper (with the cards attached) into the printer, remove the borders form the Word document (leaving the gaffs). Print the page and remove the cards from the paper.

I don't think you need to use a color printer (unless of course you want color gaffs). The laser jet gets the ink in pretty good. The cards will not hold up over a long period of continued use, but once a template of a particular gaff or set of gaffs is done and saved, it takes but a couple of minutes to print more.

If you find the ink does not print to your satisfaction, you can take some VERY fine steel wool and remove some of the finish from the side of the card you want printed.

Hope that helps,

Paul

Yes. The difference is that an inkjet merely "squirts" the ink (which is liquid) onto/into the paper, whereas a laser printer uses heat and pressure to bind the ink (really carbon based particles) onto the paper.

If you have a laser jet, give it a shot. Just tape any card to a sheet of paper (using thinner paper sometimes works better) and print the page to see how well it works.

I know this is old and late bu there is one way that works pretty well on an ink jet printer.

Get the package from the store for printing your own tee shirts. It comes with an iron on transfer. With a little practice you can get the heat and time right to make iron on transfers to blank cards that works quite well

Hope this helps.
