That seems like a particularly strong effect to open a show with. What do you use to follow?

Erlandish,

Following the MD, I then say I'm going to teach them some magic and do they know any magic words.

I finally work it around so that Happy Birthday is the magic phrase and I pull out a long strip of tissue paper with that printed on it.

I tear up the paper , crumple it into a ball in my fist, and have them all shout the "magic words". I then pull vari-colored paper out of my fist, saying that it looks as if someone said the wrong magic words! (There is no trace of the torn pieces.)

Ah, thank you Peter, now this makes it very clear to me why you like this effect so much as an opener. Thank you for taking the time to reply.

That, Doug, is the best intro I have ever heard of for a kids magic show.
Thank you :) -- it is certainly the best I've ever come up with... ;)
I'm curious do you have the same overall pacing for your kids show as you do for your video performances?
Not even remotely. The video performances are (for the most part) practice/rehearsal tapes. When I perform for a live audience, I am constantly interacting with that audience.

Some of the video performances are of effects I've publicly performed less than a handful of times. My kids show has been performed perhaps hundreds of times.

Thank you Doug, that was fun reading.  Very creative thinking.  I'll have to learn how to juggle though....  Never had the nack for it.
