| Ok i am a 17 yar old magician and have ben doing magic for years. I mostly do close up tricks and am very interested in doing street magic. The Only thing is were i live its not like in eroup magic is still not respected like it is in the UK. Most people dont really give a shit to see what you can do or they dont wanna see what you wanna show them. So How do i approach people on the streets, what do i say where is the best place to be doing my magic? And any other tips you wanna give will be great aswel. thanks

Hi Brandon, do you mean real street magic or David Blaine street magic? The reason I ask is that for a while street magic would refer to two different ideas.
On the one hand you have the traditional brand of street magic, busking. This is where you set the hat in front of you, gather a crowd and go into your act. This is the street magic I'm secretly hoping you're asking about.
Then there's what I call Blaine street magic which is, as the name implies, what world famous magician David Blaine used to do. This is not really 'street magic' as it used to be defined. We should probably have called it 'TV magic on the street'. It was a brilliant concept, but as a response to Blaine's TV specials, hordes of young magicians started going out into the streets, harassing people with a deck of cards, hoping to make a fortune by doing card tricks to strangers for free. What they were doing was more or less street magic, but more precisely it was 'magic on the street'. I'd love to debate this topic if anyone cares to, but I submit that this branch was/is not one that helps create prestige for magicians in general or for the performer specifically. As you can guess, this is the one I'm hoping you're not interested in.
Now to answer the questions for the first hypothesis (busking). Find out if your town requires a license for busking. Once you've taken care of all that, you may have a street corner assigned for you. So, How do I approach people on the streets? You don't. You just speak and move around and draw attention to yourself. If you're interesting enough, they will come to you. Once you've got one, just get into your groove and others will come.
Of course I know very little about busking... so, y'know...

Nice to hear from you Brandonlabrecqe, it takes a lot of courage to post your first forum post, well done. The next step street magic is a piece of cake in comparison. You're 17 so you must still be in school ( I hope), otherwise you will turn out like me : (
Just gather several of your friends together for your first street performance. The first few times you try magic with a live ordnance can be doubting so having mates that will give encouraging words of parse will see you Improve not only the magic but more importantly your confidence. So in no time you will be out just armed with a camera and cards creating innovative videos for all of your mates on MVD.

hey thats kinda cool,im 17 and have been doing magic going on ten years now, but my dream is to become a magican, but alot like you my back up plan was to join the military here in the states and growing up i always had this one quote which i should put on a t-shirt and make millions.
"i've always wanted to be a magician or a marine either way i was going to make someone dissappear"
haha ok sorry i had to share that, but good luck on the whole "street magic" thing, but my advise to you thats not where the moneys at. it took me a long time to figure that out. i would save that kind of stuff just to have fun with. if youre looking to make money, get your name out there by doin parties, etc. etc. you catch the drift but hey we're all different and you make millions out there in the streets but what ever path you choose good luck brother-man.

But a magician has to make 'em reappear afterwards...
