My name is Paul and have been a member here at MVD for a number of years. I am 41 years old, and am a teacher of physics and maths by profession, teaching for 18 years at the senior high school level. I have been practicing magic for over 25 years (ever since I was shown that bane of ten years olds called Nickels to Dimes), the past 15 or so seriously. Normally I perform shows for junior high and high school students. I also use magic in my classroom to enhance my teaching and reinforce concepts, and at times to simply eat up that last ten minutes of class on a sunny Friday afternoon (when motivation to work is at a minimum).

Recently I began hiring my services out for stand up shows and am reminded of how much of a blast they are (I used to do stand up magic when I was in university...many years ago).

The branches of magic I love to perform include closeup, card, comedy/standup and mentalism. Kids birthday parties? I would rather shave my head with a cheese grater while chewing on aluminum foil.

In terms of favorite magicians, it would have to be Harry Anderson, hands down for entertainment value and creativity. Magicians to learn from? I find it is an impossibility to list them, as there really are too many greats.
