Thank you all for the kind comments. I honestly just decided to post
this one day without giving thought to its application as a routine
for the contest. The win was a nice surprise. Considering that more
advanced card magic is somewhat new to me (I have always worked in
close-up and money effects)... I was quick to put the gift certificate
towards some card handling instructional materials. What goes around
comes around!

Thanks again!

Very nice rendition. The royal flush at the end gave it a bit more pop
so that was definitely well worth changing things around.

Very nicely done. The additions, tweaks or whatever we choose to call
them work very well for you and that's what really matters. Its
one of those great routines that get better as you live with it
isn't it? Its great as it is but its also cool to imagine you
developing and growing it over the years.
Yes, the jokers made me smile!

Very well done Carl, that must have taken a long time to construct and
learn the patter. Beautifully performed with just the right pace and
flow, I was entertained throughout.

First, Congratulations!

A classic trick performed smoothly, flawless, with the correct pace.
It flows so natural and the spectator (me in this case) feels
comfortably just letting it flow.

Respectfully...
It IS 'Sam the Bellhop' (if it were a different story it
wouldn't be 'Sam the Bellhop').

To correct you, It is not Bill Malone's 'version'... If
you are familiar with Bill's original presentation, you will note
the differences to the story that I made.

1. I end with the Royal flush in spades (I liked this idea more than a
mere straight flush... as Bill created it).
2. The use of the RF at the end changes the number of Kings, Queens,
Jacks and Tens from the original 4 to 3... it also affects the
placement of the numbers that were used in the original straight.
3. I changed the address from 1239 W8th to 2345 W6th (which... to
me... seemed like a more deliberate figure, rather than merely
left-over cards).
4. In organizing the cards for the changes that I made... I changed
Sam's age to 29 (from 39) and had the gentleman inqure as to his
age as being '27...28...?' (rather than 38, as Bill created
it).
5. I also changed the 2 dollar tip to 3 (as in 1 dollar from each
man... it made more sense to me).
6. Sam suggests that he has lived at his address for '8... or 9
years' presenting cards for both of those numbers (Bill did not
have this in the original)
7. I also added the Jokers to the story (as a joke... I hope it made
people smile).
--- In terms of story telling detail...
8. I gave the gentlmen identities that play out in the story (the
Diamond Trader for the KOD, the Club Owner for the KOC, and the
Cardiologist for the KOH).
9. I make note of 'one eyed Jack' the card player.
10. Sam cashes a check for 30,000 dollars... giving each man 10 grand
(as opposed to 4 10 dollar bills in the original) at the same time, I
make reference to NY Savings and Loan (a small detail).

As you are suggesting... If I had created the story 'Phill the
Cab Driver' :-)...
somebody would be on here saying 'This is a rip-off of Sam the
Bellhop!'

Bill made a great routine... and created a wonderfull story line... I
made my own tweaks to it... and therefore my own version of
Bill's original plot line. Creating a new plot doesn't
equate to a new version... it's a whole new animal all together!
:-)

There is one Miser's dream... and many versions. This is my
version of Sam the Bellhop.

Suggesting that I have not taken the time to put my own stamp on this
as I presented it... is kind of insulting, considering the amount of
time and effort that I put into the changing of the story outcomes,
card order and details that did not exist in the original.

And yes, Laxersaz... you are more than welcome to use my card order
and stack.
